Almond oil virgin is derived from the kernels of the almond tree, which has the botanical name Prunus dulcis. It belongs to Rosaceae botanical family and is native to the Middle East and Mediterranean regions, but it is now cultivated in many parts of the world with suitable growing conditions. The Almond tree can grow up to 10-15 meters in height but is usually pruned to a smaller size for easier harvesting. It has green and lance-shaped leaves which are around 8-13 cm long and 3-5 cm wide with serrated edges. It produces white or pale pink flowers in early spring before the leaves emerge. The flowers are around 3-5 cm in diameter and have five petals. The fruit of the almond tree is a drupe, which is a fleshy fruit that contains a hard, woody shell that surrounds the almond kernel. The almond kernel is basically, a seed of the almond fruit and is the source of this oil.

It thrives in warm, dry climates with mild winters & hot summers and prefers well-draining soils with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5. It blooms in late winter or early spring, and the nuts mature in the fall. The nuts are harvested by shaking the tree or using a mechanical shaker, and then they are left to dry in the sun. Once the nuts are harvested, they are typically shelled to remove the hard outer shell. The kernels are then, ground into a paste and are used to extract the oil. This oil is extracted from almonds using a cold-pressing process, which involves minimal heat and does not involve any chemicals or solvents.
