Jojoba oil is a liquid wax extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant. It is a perennial shrub that is native to the Sonoran Desert, which spans parts of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It is now widely cultivated in many parts of the world, including Australia, Israel, and Argentina, in addition to its native range in North America.  It is scientifically called Simmondsia chinensis and it belongs to the family Simmondsiaceae. The plant is well-adapted to the harsh desert environment and can tolerate high temperatures, drought, and poor soil conditions. Jojoba plants are typically propagated from seeds and can take up to 3-4 years to reach maturity. Once mature, the plants can grow up to 6 meters (20 feet) tall, although they are usually pruned to a more manageable height for commercial production. Jojoba plants produce small, greenish-yellow flowers that bloom in the spring, which are followed by fleshy, olive-shaped fruits that contain one to three seeds. These seeds, which are about the size of a coffee bean, are harvested and processed to extract the oil. It has small, leathery, evergreen leaves that are oval-shaped and about 2-4 cm (0.8-1.6 inches) long. The leaves are dark green on the upper surface and lighter green on the underside. Jojoba plants can be grown in a variety of climates and soil types, although they prefer well-drained soils with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5.

Jojoba oil is typically extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant using a cold-pressed method. It has a unique chemical composition that is similar to the natural oils produced by human skin, making it an excellent natural moisturizer. It is mainly composed of wax esters, which are unique to this oil and are not found in other plant or animal oils. Wax esters are composed of long-chain fatty acids and long-chain alcohols, and are similar in structure to the natural oils produced by the human skin. Jojoba oil also contains a variety of fatty acids, including oleic acid, gadoleic acid, eicosenoic acid, docosanol acid, and erucic acid. These fatty acids can help to moisturize and protect the skin and may have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It is a rich source of vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that can help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin E also helps to promote skin health by supporting collagen production and maintaining the skin's barrier function. It also involves phytosterols, which are plant compounds that can help to soothe and protect the skin phytosterols have been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and may help to reduce redness and irritation

Jojoba oil has a long history of use by indigenous people in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, where the jojoba plant is native. The Native American O'odham people, for example, used the seeds of the jojoba plant as a food source and also used the oil to moisturize and protect their skin and hair. In the early 20th century, researchers began to study the properties of jojoba oil and discovered its unique chemical composition, which is similar to the natural oils produced by human skin. This discovery led to the development of commercial products containing jojoba oil, such as skin and hair care products, as well as industrial lubricants and other products. Today, jojoba oil is widely used in the cosmetics and personal care industries and is a popular ingredient in natural and organic products. Jojoba oil is a versatile and popular oil that has a range of potential benefits for skin, hair, and overall health.  It can help hydrate and soothe dry and irritated skin. It is non-comedogenic, which means it doesn't clog pores and is well-tolerated by people with sensitive skin. Jojoba oil also has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce redness and swelling in the skin.
